Inter-Hall Games (IHG) at NUS

IHG (Inter-Hall Games) is one of the biggest events in hall life, and honestly, it was one of the main reasons I chose to stay in hall—especially at Eusoff Hall.

IHG（Inter-Hall Games） 是宿舍生活中最盛大的活動之一，也是我當初選擇住 Hall 的主要原因之一，尤其是選擇 Eusoff Hall。

There are six halls at National University of Singapore:

在 National University of Singapore 一共有六個 Hall：

  • Eusoff Hall (EH)
  • Temasek Hall (TH)
  • Kent Ridge Hall (KR)
  • King Edward VII Hall (KE)
  • Sheares Hall (SH)
  • Raffles Hall (RH)

Among them, Eusoff and Temasek are widely known as the “sports halls.” As a result, IHG is especially important to these two halls.

其中 Eusoff 和 Temasek 被公認為「運動型宿舍（sports halls）」，因此 IHG 對這兩個 Hall 來說特別重要。

IHG includes 18 different sports, ranging from common ones like basketball, volleyball, and badminton to less common sports in Taiwan such as sepak takraw, frisbee, and floorball.

IHG 一共包含 18 項運動，從籃球、排球、羽球等常見項目，到在台灣較少見的藤球（takraw）、飛盤（frisbee）、floorball 等都有。

Before the competition starts, each hall’s sports CCA trains intensively throughout the semester in pursuit of the championship. Some sports, like frisbee and softball, are mixed-gender events, while most others have separate men’s and women’s categories.

在正式比賽開始前，各 Hall 的體育 CCA 都會在第一學期密集訓練，目標就是奪下冠軍。有些項目像 frisbee、softball 是男女混合賽制，大部分運動則分為男生組與女生組。

Each hall has its own strengths, but the overall competition is usually dominated by Eusoff and Temasek. This year, almost every gold medal was won by either Eusoff or Temasek—except for men’s volleyball.

每個 Hall 都有自己的強項，但整體來說競爭多半集中在 Eusoff 與 Temasek 之間。今年幾乎所有金牌都由這兩個 Hall 包辦（除了男子排球）。

If you’re passionate about sports, Eusoff and Temasek would definitely be your top choices.

如果你真的很熱愛運動，那 Eusoff 和 Temasek 絕對會是首選。

All sports are team-based. That means even if you’re individually strong, you can’t win without solid teamwork.

IHG 所有項目都是團隊賽制。即使個人實力很強，如果隊友整體實力不夠，也很難奪冠。這也讓我更深刻體會到「團隊」的重要性。

I really appreciate how much effort every hall member puts into the games. Each hall runs its own Instagram account to update match results, and there are dedicated CCAs responsible for taking professional photos during competitions. The social media management is extremely well-organized—you can easily access detailed results and updates. Honestly, it’s even more structured than NTU Cup (台大盃).

我也非常欣賞每個 Hall 成員為比賽投入的努力。每個 Hall 都會經營自己的 Instagram 帳號更新戰況，還有專門的 CCA 負責在比賽中拍攝專業照片。社群媒體經營得非常完整，可以看到詳細的比賽結果與數據，整體資訊透明度甚至比台大盃還完整。

My Experience

I participated in badminton, table tennis, and basketball. Unfortunately, none of them won a gold medal, which is one of my regrets. The champions are awarded gold medals, and it’s definitely a memorable honor.

我參加了羽球、桌球和籃球，但都沒有拿到金牌，這算是我的一個小小遺憾。IHG 的冠軍會頒發金牌，那真的是一個非常有紀念價值的榮譽。

The games take place at the very beginning of the second semester and last about one month. Some sports, like swimming and track, allow participants to join shortly before the competition. However, most sports require training throughout the first semester.

IHG 通常在第二學期一開始舉行，為期約一個月。有些項目（例如游泳和田徑）可以在比賽前短期加入，但大部分運動都需要在第一學期就開始固定訓練。

So if you’re interested in sports, I would strongly recommend applying for a one-year exchange and staying in hall. That way, you’ll have enough time to train with your teammates and compete for the championship.

因此，如果你對運動有興趣，我會非常建議選擇一年交換並且住 Hall。這樣才有足夠時間和隊友培養默契、一起訓練，並真正為冠軍而戰。

This year, Eusoff Hall finished as first runner-up, just 2 points behind Temasek. It was a bit disappointing, but it still gave me unforgettable memories and valuable experience.

今年我們（Eusoff Hall）拿到總成績第一名亞軍（first runner-up），只差 Temasek 2 分。雖然有點可惜，但這段經歷帶給我很多珍貴的回憶與成長。

About the Photos

The cameras owned by Eusoff Workshop are quite high-end—it costs over 50,000 NTD—so the photos taken during the games are of excellent quality. The clarity, color, and action shots really capture the intensity of IHG.

Eusoff Workshop 擁有多台價值超過 5 萬元新台幣的高階相機，因此比賽中拍攝的照片品質非常好。無論是清晰度、色彩還是捕捉動作瞬間的能力，都把 IHG 的張力完整呈現出來。
